Anne Shepherd

November 13, 1922 — March 24, 2014

Poland - Anne Shepherd, 91, died early Monday morning, March 24, 2014 at Hospice House.

Mrs. Shepherd was born in November of 1922 in Springburn, Scotland, a daughter of John and Jean.

Anne served during World War II in the British Army, working with overseas mail delivery while stationed in Nottingham, England. She emigrated to the United States in 1951 and became a naturalized citizen in 1953. She lived in the Cleveland area for a number of years before moving toYoungstown in the 1960's, living in Canfield and later settling in Poland.

She was a longtime member of the Poland Presbyterian Church and spent many years as a volunteer with the American Red Cross.Anne was the last admitted member of the Thistle Club of Youngstown, a club made of women both born in Scotland or those having a Scottish Heritage.

Anne married, John D. Shepherd, in 1949 and they were married for 44 years until his death in 1993. She is survived by her son, David (Mary Ann ) of Poland; sister, Jean (Joseph) of East Kilbride, Scotland; brother, Ernest (Norma) of Thailand; and her cherished granddaughter, Kristen of Akron.

Besides her parents and husband, Anne was preceded in death by a sister, Letty and her granddaughter, Rebecca.

There will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held for the family. Interment is at Poland Riverside Cemetery. held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland.
