Anna Mary (Shevetz) Primavera

July 3, 1913 — January 11, 2017

FRESNO, CALIFORNIA- Anna Mary (Shevetz) Primavera, 103, died Wednesday January 11, 2017 at Hinds Hospice, Fresno California.

Anna was born July 3, 1913, in Lowellville, a daughter of Peter and Anna Gardos Shevetz and grew up in a factory house right next to the Mary Blast Furnace, one of the oldest operating blast furnaces in the country.

She lived through world wars, armed conflicts, depressions, recessions and Prohibition. She married Louis (Gene) Primavera and raised a family with him for 57 years. She worked in a raincoat factory and storm window factory; was President of the Lowellville American Legion Auxiliary and also the President of a Steelworker’s Union Local and thoroughly enjoyed their State and National Conventions.

She really loved to dance and whether it was walking to Hillsville for a dance or wedding during the Depression she always danced every dance and didn’t leave until the band left and the lights went out. She also learned to golf and bowl and played championship bocce into her 90’s and traveled around the world with her husband, who died on July 24, 1992.

She leaves a son, Ronald Primavera and his wife Janice of Fresno, California; a sister Dorothy Iudiciani of Lowellville; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren and 5 great-great-great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, husband and daughter, Marjorie Mae Mabray, of Fresno she was preceded in death by brothers Stephen, John, Peter, Joseph, Andy and Mike Shevetz and sisters Mary Kotouch, Kay Opsitnik, Helen Retort and Peggy Kollar.

Friends will be received Friday, January 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 21 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Church in Lowellville followed by a luncheon.

A private burial service will be held after the luncheon at the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Lowellville.
