Boardman - Anna Basista, 104, of the Greenbriar, formerly of Poland, died early Thursday morning at the nursing home. Anna was born October 22, 1903 in Stelbach, Czechoslovakia, a daughter of Elias and Helen Semancik Basista. She came to the United States and to Struthers in 1920 and then moved to Poland in 1995. She was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Campbell, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Anna enjoyed people and loved spending time with her family. She loved to garden and was a wonderful cook. Her husband, John D. Basista, whom she married May 30, 1921, died in 1936. She leaves one daughter, Agnes Butsko of Poland; three sons, Andy (Evelyn) Basista of Warren, Jim (Margaret) Basista of Niles, and John (Maryann) Basista of Poland; eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, Anna was preceded in death by two daughters, Helen and Norma Basista; three brothers Elias, Joseph and Stephen Basista; and two sisters, Mary Seginak and Paraska Busonik. Funeral services will be held at Monday at 10:15 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland and 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Victor Romza officiating. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery. Friends will be received Sunday from 3-6 p.m. and Monday from 9:15 a.m. until the time of prayer service at the funeral home.
