Andrew A. Garchar

Struthers - Andrew A. Garchar, 92, died Sunday afternoon, March 19, 2017 at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center.

Mr. Garchar was born September 26, 1924 in Struthers, a son of George and Mary Bendzalla Garchar.

A lifelong resident of Struthers, he attended Struthers High School and worked the majority of his career as a packer for General Fire Proofing, retiring in 1986 after 45 years of service.

Mr. Garchar was a lifelong member of Christ Our Savior Parish at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, where he was baptized as an infant.

Andy will always be remembered as a dedicated family man who always put his family first. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and babysat them often. In his free time, he enjoyed listening to country music and his brother Steve play polkas.

He leaves his wife, the former Margaret Kovach, whom he married August 26, 1950; four children, Sylvia (Rick) Breitzman of Puyallup, WA, Edward Garchar of Poland, Maria (Daniel) Ginnetti of Poland, and Monica (John) Appel of Poland; a brother, Steve Garchar of Struthers; a sister, Mary Belloto of Columbiana; seven grandchildren, Shawn (Emily) Breitzman, Josh (fiancee Kelsey King) Ginnetti, Justin (Sarah) Ginnetti, Gino Ginnetti, Dr. Jared Appel, Kyle Appel, and Kirsten Appel.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, John, George, Joseph, Michael, and Stephen Garchar; and a sister, Agnes Koval.

A prayer service will be held on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Struthers. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Campbell.

Family and friends will be received on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
