Youngstown - Amelia Desko, 86, of Youngstown, died Thursday morning, March 20, 2014 at Inn at Christine Valley in Youngstown.
Amelia was born July 4, 1927 in Campbell, a daughter of Thomas and Rose Palka Garback.
A 1945 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, Amelia was a proud homemaker. Her greatest joy was taking care of husband and her children, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She loved cleaning her home and the flowers around her front porch. Amelia collected recipes and was generous with her talents and her time in baking cookies for the weddings of family and friends. She enjoyed polkas and cherished her two dogs, who were both named Peaches.
Amelia was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church and had attended St. Christine Church.
Her husband John died September 10, 1998; She leaves two daughters, Deborah (Ed) Garchar of Austintown and Sharon (Mickey) Sikora of Masury; two sons, John (Sue) Desko of Austintown and Mark (Theresa) Desko of Mantua; four grandchildren, David and Katelyn Desko, John and Alyssa Sikora; and one great-Grandson, Nate Desko.
Besides her parents and husband, Amelia was preceded in death by two brothers, Benjamin and Edward Garback.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at Christ our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers with Fr. William Loveless officiating. Entombment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery.
Friends will be received Sunday, 4-7 PM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers, where a Prayer Service will be held Monday at 10:30 AM.
