Poland - Alma Crittenden, 74, of Poland, died Sunday, April 26, 2009 at the Hospice House.
Mrs. Crittenden was born February 13, 1935 in Poland, the daughter of Ralph and Gladys Grossen Marquis.
She was a 1953 graduate of Struthers High School, where her extracurricular activities included singing in the choir, playing basketball and volleyball, and she was a member of the Y-Teens.
Mrs. Crittenden worked as a head cook for the Poland School District for 25 years, retiring in 1998. She enjoyed the school parties and annual luncheons they would have around Christmas and in the spring.
She was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Poland and its Ladies Sewing Circle and Seniors Luncheon Group, Just Friends. Mrs. Crittenden enjoyed bowling and played on numerous leagues including the Neighborhood Bowling League and the Lutheran League. Her biggest enjoyment was spending time with her family and traveling to visit with her children and grandchildren.
She leaves her husband, Lester Crittenden Jr., whom she married August 18, 1954; four sons, Lester (Patty) Crittenden III of Columbiana, Tom (Pauline) Crittenden of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Tim (Evon) Crittenden of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Jerry (Jacci) Crittenden of Bloomington, Illinois; two brothers, Gilbert (Peg) Marquis of Columbus and Gerald "Joe" Marquis of Boardman; and nine grandchildren, Krystle, Kylee, Nicole, Danny, Jessica, Brian, Sammi, Allison, and Tyler Crittenden.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
There will be no calling hours or services. Arrangements are being handled by the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland.
