Allen M. Hummel

North Lima - Allen M. Hummel, 81, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2024 at the Hospice House, surrounded by his beloved family.

He was born November 25,1942 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Michael Humilovich and Helen (Balyk) Friel. He graduated from North Hills High School and then continued his education at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. His entire career spanned 40 years, during which he worked for several companies, including Comstock Engineering, Reliance Contracting Company, and ALCOA in Pittsburgh. He completed his career at the ALCOA Tech Center in New Kensington, PA where he served as the senior project engineer, specializing in molten metal and molten metal processing equipment until his retirement in 2004.

Allen was a quiet and gentle soul who never wanted to be the center of attention. He loved the great outdoors and shared that love with his family. They enjoyed many trips across the country visiting countless state and national parks, including annual trips to South Carolina and his favorite place, Glacier National Park in Montana. He often looked for new places to hike or bike with his wife. He also had a passion for antique cars and gunsmithing.

Most of all, he dedicated his life to ensuring his family was loved and supported. His greatest joy was being “Pap” to his grandchildren. He was so happy spending time with them, watching them grow, and attending their various school activities. 

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife and soulmate of 57 years, the former Judith Walter, whom he married June 17, 1967; his children, Kimberly (Jeff) Hvizdos and Allen M. Hummel, both of North Lima; his grandchildren, Michael and Amanda Hvizdos; his niece, Diane (Daniel) Zapata of TX; and sister-in-law, Arlene Hummel.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond Hummel and Robert Friel.

Friends will be received on Friday, August 9, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, followed immediately by a memorial Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Coitsville.
