Alice Lucille Smith, 78 Poland- Alice Lucille Smith, 78, of Elmland Avenue, formerly of Helena Ave., Youngstown, went home Monday evening to be with her Lord and Savior and to be reunited with her beloved husband, Smitty, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Smith was born June 18, 1927 in Youngstown a daughter of Frank and Elsie Martin Hilbert. She was a life-time area resident. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club and the Eastern Star. She was a charter member of the former Fairview Immanuel Baptist Church in Youngstown. Her greatest joy in life were her girls and her grandchildren. Her husband Arvel C. Smith, whom she married June 30, 1946 died October 19, 2001. She leaves three daughters, Brenda (Robert) Popa, with whom she made her home, Barbara (Mark) Knabe of Hudson, Ohio and Beth (John) Miller of Poland; one sister, Donna Wem of Youngstown; three brothers, Thomas Hilbert of Boardman, Donald Hilbert of Florida, and Bill Hilbert of Florida; two granddaughters, Allison Miller and Nicole Lawrence; six grandsons, Todd Cerimeli, Matthew Knabe, Scott Knabe, Chad Miller, Jacob Miller and Daniel Popa; and one great-granddaughter, Keirsten Lawrence. Besides her parents and husband, two brothers, Randall and Frank Hilbert preceded her in death. Funeral Services will be Friday, 11:00 AM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. Contributions can be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society.
