Struthers-On January 3rd, Alice Jane (Mirth) Kopp was called home by her Heavenly Father.
Born to Carl and Karolina Mirth in Youngstown on December 9th, 1928, Alice had just celebrated her 87th birthday. Alice was a 1947 graduate of East High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society.
A Lutheran by faith, Alice was a member of the former Faith Lutheran Church in Youngstown, where she met her husband of 67 years, Kenneth K. Kopp. They were married in this same church on November 26th, 1948. She was a 60 year member of Christ Lutheran Church in Struthers, where she was an active member of the Ladies Club and volunteered for many activities.
Alice had worked in the offices of the Youngstown Sheet and Tube, prior to embarking on her lifelong career of wife and mother. Alice chose to devote her life to God, her husband, and her family, in this order.
She enjoyed sitting alongside her husband watching the Cleveland Indians, sitting in the sun, reading, and the many summer vacations at the Outer Banks in North Carolina with her family.
One of Alice's final wishes was to spend a last Christmas with her children. Christmas came early this year for Alice, as all five children celebrated with her on December 11th.
Alice leaves to mourn her life, her husband, Kenneth; five children, Kerry Kopp of Florida, John (Betsy) Kopp of Struthers, Sue (Sam) Ferreri of Poland, Kenny (Julie) Kopp of Struthers and Christa Kopp of Colorado. Alice leaves behind 10 grandchildren, John, Deanna, Jennifer, Daniel, Brittany, Kristina, Philly, Kenny, Jonathan, and Thomas. When they were younger, they loved having "sleep-overs" at Gramma's house, and she loved attending all of their school events. Alice was very blessed to spend time with her 9 great-grandchildren, Megan, William, Ryan, Joshua, Brandon, Tyler, Jordyn, Logan, and Stella. Alice leaves behind her sister and best friend, Dorothy "Dot" Meyer, with whom she was a member of the Ladies 500 card club since 1955. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews, who she loved very much, Harry, Linda, Carol, and Phillip.
Alice was greeted in heaven by her parents; granddaughter, Jessica Porcase; daughter-in-law, Sara Kopp; and brother-in law, Harry Meyer.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Boardman.
Family and friends will be received Thursday from 5-7 p.m. and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend its gratitude to MVI Hospice Care, her nurse Angela, and all of their staff for the wonderful care extended to her.
Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions in Mrs. Kopp's name to MVI Hospice, 4891 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, OH 44505.
And at the end of one's life, we reflect on how it is lived, and this becomes one's legacy. Alice left a legacy of faith and love that will be forever carried on in her family's hearts. And remember, we will all see one another again someday.
