Alcey S. (Smith) Shultz

Poland- Alcey S. Shultz, 78, died Thursday morning, December 7, 2017 at Hospice of the Valley's Hospice House.

Alcey was born April 2, 1939 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Burton and Laurabelle Stewart Smith.

A lifelong resident of Poland, Alcey was a 1957 graduate of Poland Seminary High School. After high school, she was employed for a local bank before marrying John H. "Jack" Shultz on November 26, 1966. She later drove school bus for the Poland Local Schools and retired from Dr. Ko's office where she worked in the medical billing department for many years.

An active member of the Poland community, she was a member of the Poland Presbyterian Church, the Poland Volunteer Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as a past treasurer, and The Ruth Shrine No. 64 Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, where she served as the Worthy High Priestess in 1972.

Alcey was very creative and enjoyed painting and making a variety of crafts. She attended many of the local craft shows and festivals selling her creations. Throughout the years, she enjoyed many camping trips with her husband Jack and circle of friends. Alcey and Jack also enjoyed their time as foster parents to a young boy and girl. Alcey had a soft spot for animals and enjoyed the companionship from her bichon frise Snowee and her cat Maxine.

Her husband, Jack, preceded her in death on September 26, 2010. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Robert D. Brewster Sr. of Sylvan Lake, Michigan; niece, Dr. Lee Brewster of Sylvan Lake, Michigan; nephew, Robert D. (Maureen) Brewster, Jr. of Jackson, Michigan; and a great nephew and great niece, David and Elaine Brewster.

In addition to her parents and husband, Alcey was preceded in death by her sister, Olive "Sis" Brewster and brother, Burton "Jack" Smith.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland, where family and friends will be received from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery. Following the services, all guests are invited to the Becker Family Center for fellowship and a luncheon.

Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions in Alcey's name to the Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Rd., Poland, Ohio 44514.
