Albert St. John Woodward

Campbell - Albert St John Woodward, 86 of Campbell, died Sunday morning, June 11, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Albert, affectionately known as John, was born February 21, 1931 in Calcutta, India, a son of Albert and Blanche May Woodward.

John was raised in India and at the age of 14, India became Home Rule and the English were forced out. John and his family moved to England where they made their home.

John served for two years in the Royal Army, the R.E.M.E. and served his apprenticeship for skilled trade as a machine repairman. John met his wife Pamela at a dance while serving in the R.E.M.E. They were married in September 18, 1954 in England. Together with their five children they immigrated to Canada in 1964. They lived there for two years and their family grew to nine. Due to the cost of living, they immigrated to the United Sates where they had three more children. They lived in numerous places before John took a position with General Motors. John was the third person to be hired by General Motors as a machine repairman later a millwright. He worked at General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1995.

John enjoyed bird watching, fiddling around in his yard and garage, and eating Curry at Indian restaurants. He and Pamela enjoyed making trip back home to England to visit.

John leaves his wife, the former Pamela Pryce; seven daughters, Laura Woodward of Youngstown, Pamela Deborah Woodward of Birmingham, England, Joanne (Michael) Oakley of San Diego, Amanda Cadman of Campbell, Marianne (Tod) Cadman of Lowellville, Melissa Woodward of Kansas City, KS, and Jennifer (Charles) Randall also of Campbell; three sons, Jonathan (Cheryl) Woodward of Campbell, Lindsey (Antionette) Woodward of Myrtle Beach, SC, Matthew Woodward of Campbell; one sister, Peggy Peppas of Merstham, Surrey; twenty-one grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Woodward and Lorna Wheatley; and one grandson.

Private services were held today at the Davison-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.
