Tallmadge - Albert B. Stocker, of Struthers, formerly of Tallmadge, died at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House in Poland.
Albert was born July 15, 1922 in Struthers, a son of Albert and Alice Mound Stocker. He was raised in Struthers and lived in Youngstown until moving to Cuyahoga Falls in 1966 and to Tallmadge in 1969 where he and his wife Margretta resided for 50 years.
A1940 graduate of Struthers High School, Albert became a United States Army Veteran during World War II where he served in the European Theater and fought against German Forces in Normandy France and was assigned to the adjunct General office as a communication officer.
After serving in the war, Albert attended Ohio State University of Engineering for one year and then enrolled at Youngstown College in 1946 and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelors of Science in Education. Al continued his education and received his Associate Degree in Business Administration from Youngstown University in 1960.
After graduation he taught as a substitute teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School for one year.
From 1954 until 1961 he worked as a Cost Accountant for Raymond Concrete on Andrews Ave., and in 1961 was hired as a Internal Revenue Agent for the United States Treasury Department in Akron, OH and received the status of Top Agent working grade. He retired in 1983 after 21 years of service with the Government.
In Youngstown, Al was a member of the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church where he served as secretary of the Sunday School. In Tallmadge, he was a member of the First Congregational Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and Trustee. He was a member of the American Legion in Akron and was an avid golfer. In 1999 Al had a Hole in One at the Brookledge Golf Course.
His wife of 60 years, the former Margretta Ruth Myers, whom he married June 14, 1952 died December 2, 2012. He is survived by a nephew and niece, Terry (Renee) Stocker of Struthers, Margaret (Tom) Johns of Atlanta, GA, Patricia (Paul) Tropp of Springfield, OH.
Besides his parents and wife, Albert was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Parks; and brother, Paul R Stocker.
Funeral services will be held Friday, 10:00 AM at the Davidson-Becker FUneral Home, 11 Spring St., Struthers, with Pastor John Schlup officiating. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Friends will be received today (Thursday) from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
