Lowellville - Albert J. Kinkela, Sr., 91, of Lowellville, died peacefully surrounded by his loving children, Tuesday afternoon, May 26, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Albert was born April 16, 1924 in Lowellville, a son of Frank and Frances Kinkela.
A life-long resident of Lowellville, Al was a 1942 graduate of Lowellville High School. He attended Youngstown College before serving in the United States Army
during World War II. He was in the 3rd Battalion under General Patton and fought in the European Theatre. He was the recipient of numerous medals including four Bronze Stars.
After the war, Al returned to Lowellville, and married the love of his life, Antoinette DeLisio. They were married for 62 wonderful years.
Al worked at Sharon Steel Corp, as a First Helper. He retired in 1986 after 39 years of service.
Al was a former member of the Lowellville Senior Citizens and he enjoyed golfing and bowling. The highlight of his golfing career was when he made a Hole-In-One at the VFW Golf Course, September 13, 1994. He also loved to read the Youngstown Vindicator from the front page to the last page and work on the crossword puzzles. Most important to Al was spending time with his family. Al was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church.
His wife, the former Antoinette DeLisio, whom he married June 5, 1948 died June 24, 2010. Al is survived by three daughters, Patricia Romack of New Middletown, Barbara (Bob) Perry of Lowellville, and Susan (Bill) DiTommaso of Hilliard; one son, Albert (Michele) Kinkela, Jr.; eight grandchildren, Jonelle (George) Liptak of Struthers, Vincent (Jessica) Perry of Edinburg, Andrea Romack of New Middletown, Jennifer Romack of Girard, Anthony DiTommaso of Hilliard, Alison (Tony) Smith of Hilliard, Ashley and Michael Kinkela of Poland; five great-grandchildren, Dominic, Addison and Nicholas Liptak, and Vincent and Geno Perry who affectionately called him Grandfather. He also leaves many loving nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, Al was preceded in death by his brother Frank Kinkela Jr; sister, Ann Rabosky; and great-grandson, Andrew Liptak.
Prayer Services will be held Friday at 12:30 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 PM at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church with Fr. John Jerek officiating. Interment will follow at the Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Friends will be received today from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home.
