BOARDMAN-Albert Jimro, 94, died Wednesday evening, April 20, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Al was born March 2, 1917 in Farrell, PA, a son of Joseph and Blanche Billski Jimro. He was raised on a milk farm in West Middlesex, PA. While growing up, Al and his brother, worked at the Idora Park Ballroom taking tickets for dancing.
He was a 1934 graduate of Hubbard High School. He first worked for Open Hearth in Struthers and Butler Steel Mill. Al later worked for General Fireproofing and retired after 39 years of service, where he worked on the assembly line making office equipment. For many years, he also worked and drove cars at John Thompson & Sons Used Cars. He was a part of their entire family.
Al was a United States Air Force veteran, serving four years in the 8th Division, servicing the B17 Bombers.
He was a member of St. Adalbert Parish in Farrell. For the last several years, before moving to the Commons at the Greenbriar, Esther and Al kept active by making bears for the sick and elderly with the senior group at Trinity Fellowship Church. They also attended the senior group at Highway Tabernacle, where Al worked in the kitchen helping cleaning up after meals were served.
Al loved watching and attending car races, country music, and polka music.
He is survived by his companion of 63 years, Esther Thompson of Boardman and her extended family; two nephews, William (Diane) Jimro of Chandler, AZ and their daughter, Melissa, and Richard Jimro of Sharon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Walter; and three sisters, Helen, Julia, and Clara.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 4996 Market Street, Boardman, with Fr. Daniel J. Kresinski officiating.
Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Hermitage.
