Struthers - Albert A Jacobs, 87, of Struthers, died Tuesday afternoon at Hampton Woods.
Al was born July 15, 1924 in Campbell, a son of George and Mary Jacobs where he grew up and graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1942.
Al served in the US Air Force, stationed in several bases in the U.S. After returning from the USAF, Al went back to work at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Campbell works, where he retired from Power House Repair in 1981 after 39 years of service. After retirement he pursued his love of electronics which resulted in various jobs including working on the PA systems in the Struthers schools, especially the football stadium where he also did some announcing, and summers at the old Canfield Speedway at the Canfield Fair Grounds.
His love of music led him to hosting a Big Band Music Show on Saturday mornings at WKTL Radio at Struthers High School for 12 years where he mentored many students in the radio program.He also enjoyed NASCAR, tinkering with electronics in his hidden away workshop and his CB radio where his call name was Benchman.
He worked as an electrician for Youngstown Sheet & Tube for 30 years retiring in 1981. After retirement he worked as an electrical repairman for Struthers High School. Albert enjoyed traveling and was a member of Holy Trinity Church.
Besides his wife of 68 years, the former Irene Evan, whom he married March 12, 1944 in Youngstown; he leaves one son, Gerald (Gwen) Jacobs of Kennewick, WA; and a loving granddaughter, Tracie Lynn Jacobs of Portland, OR who was the joy of his life. Al looked forward to her visits and her weekly phone calls. He also leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Florence Hosa Dougherty of Las Cruces, N.M. and Helen Hosa of Canfield. Along with several nieces, nephews and friends who were especially dear to him and a very special niece, Beverly Mordocco, and her family, Dennis and Danielle, and the Bobby Family: who were always there for him over the years.
Besides his parents, Al was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael (Helen) Jacobs and George Jr. (Mary) Jacobs; and two brothers-in-law, Jim and Leo Hosa..
As a member of Christ Our Savior Parish, Holy Trinity site, in Struthers, services will be held Friday, 1:30 p.m. at the Mausoleum of St. John's Cemetery where he will laid to rest. with Fr. Bernard Gaeta officiating.
