Adam Ostovich, 81 Poland- Adam Ostovich, 81 of Diana Drive, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center. Adam was born April 12, 1923 in Campbell, a son of Joseph and Mary Keller Ostovich. He married the former Maxine Gungle on June 8, 1957 and they enjoyed many years of married life together. Maxine preceded Adam in death on July 16, 1998. Adam graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1942 where he played 6 man football. His team played the first night game in Poland under Coach Hill McDonald in 1941. Adam was called to the Navy in December 1942. He served in all invasions in the Italian Campaign on a mine sweeper. He was then deployed to the Pacific on a sub-chaser in blockade of Okinawa. After leaving the service, he attended and graduated from Youngstown State College with a degree in advertising. Following graduation he worked as a stationary engineer at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube. He retired in 1972. Adam was recalled to serve two years on a destroyer during the Korean War. Upon discharge he continued in the Naval Reserve. While in the Reserves, Adam obtained the rank of Commander and served as the Commanding Officer of the Youngstown Naval Reserves. Adam was a member of the Poland United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir over 60 years and served as chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Church Altar Guild Enrichment Fund. He was a member of the Sulgrave Lodge F&AM #696, a 32 degree Mason in the Scottish Rite, and the Poland Masonic Breakfast Club. He was a member of the Poland Volunteer Fireman for many years. He is survived by two brothers, Vernon (Betty) Ostovich of Struthers and Ted (Michele) Ostovich of Satellite Beach, Florida and 6 nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife Maxine, one brother Joseph Ostovich preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Saturday, 10:00 AM at the Poland United Methodist Church. Friends may call Friday from 5-8 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland and from 9 until 9:45 AM Saturday in church. A Masonic service will be held Friday at 8:00 PM.
