Adam David Brown

July 31, 1974 — August 8, 2017

We have a heavy heart today as we mourn the loss and celebrate the too-short life of Adam David Brown. Adam leaves behind his mother, Patty Tchoryk, Grandmother Monique Tchoryk, Aunt Anita (Stanley) Babinski, Uncle Peter (Sarah) Tchoryk, cousins, Ashley (Anthony) Babinski-Tommasini, Christie Babinski, Jessie (Erick) Finkiewicz, Francie Gonzales, Danielle Tchoryk, John Tchoryk, Victoria Tchoryk, Sydney Tchoryk, Jacq Kai Tchoryk, Bailey Finkiewicz, Parker Finkiewicz, Sullivan Finkiewicz, Great Aunt Olga Goldich, Great Uncle John (Margie) Tchoryk, Angelo Minniti, and many friends.

Adam joins his Great Uncle Ralph Goldich, Grandfather Pierre Tchoryk, Great Uncle Michael Tchoryk and some dear friends. Adam loved his family and friends fiercely and would do anything for them, but it is fair to say that his mother, Patty, Grandmother Monique, and cousins held a place in his heart like no others. It was a bond forged in pure love that will never be broken. His Grandma was his special confidant and inspiration through the darkest times. And she will always remember how Adam was there to help with his Grandfather Pierre, and pups Cooper and Little Bit.

Adam also aspired to be like his Great Uncle Ralph, who was known for being a positive influence in everyone’s life and always having an encouraging word.

Like many others, Adam’s journey was not an easy one. He struggled with addiction, and while this did not define him, we mention it because he had dedicated his life to helping others as a result of his journey.

Adam was on a mission, not only to care for those with addictions, but also to support all those who find themselves marginalized by birth or society. Even on his last day on this Earth, he was personally reaching out to people and giving a helping hand. Adam had just moved to Michigan and was leading the addiction care outreach as part of Springmatter.org.

Adam’s life was shaped by many people and organizations, perhaps none so strongly as the Youngstown YMCA. He and his mother both benefited greatly from the YMCA’s mission to bring health and well-being to all people in the community. Adam’s love for the YMCA really began when he attended camp as a young man and this love continued into his adult life, when he served as a camp counselor. His experiences inspired him to pursue a life as a counselor and he was working toward that goal when he passed away.

Adam loved people from all walks of life and didn’t judge people based on color or any other differences. He recently committed himself to learning everything he could about Martin Luther King, Jr. and hoped to follow his example.

For those who knew Adam from his youth growing up in Austintown, Ohio, his life in Florida, or his final days in Michigan, Adam was as tough as they came. He loved boxing and football. And he dedicated himself to turning that toughness into a resolve to help others through their own hard times. For this, we can forgive his inconceivable love for the Dallas Cowboys.

Adam’s legacy is his determination and passion for helping others and his aspirations to be a positive force in this world. His legacy will live on.

A private memorial service will be held August 19, 2017, 3pm at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.

Memorial tributes can be made to the YMCA of Youngstown, C/O Metro Office, 17N. Champion St., Youngstown, OH, 44503, or the Springmatter Fund, C/O Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, 301 North Main Street, Suite 300, Ann Arbor, MI 48104.
